Videos show cars doing burnouts, fireworks shooting off in uptown Charlotte

Video circulating on social media Sunday morning shows cars doing burnouts and fireworks shooting off in Uptown Charlotte.

The videos show large crowds were watching the drivers during the stunts.

At least two vehicles were doing donuts in the intersection in front of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, the videos showed. The building is on East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

In one of the videos, fireworks were being shot off above the intersection.

It’s not clear when the videos were shot, but Channel 9 is reaching out to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for more information. We’re also working to learn if anyone was arrested in that incident.

Several people reached out to Channel 9 about another street takeover that happened Saturday night in NoDa. We reached out to MEDIC, who said someone was hit by a car around 2 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of 36th Street and North Davidson. That victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, MEDIC said. That incident happened in front of Fire Station 7.

Charlotte Fire said at the same time in the same location, one of their engines was involved in crash. It wasn’t a serious accident, Charlotte Fire said.

There’s no word yet from CMPD on whether they impounded any cars as a result of either of the street takeovers.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
