ChrisG*: Common sense is what's lacking, both in politics and in the way political reporting/commentating is done. Extremes are what make the news, and extremes are what bring in the fundraising dollars, so extremism is becoming the norm. But I don't truly believe that most Americans are extreme. I think, when you get right down to it, most Americans could probably find a fair amount of common ground. But the current atmosphere is so poisonously partisan that there is no common ground allowed. And that is what will truly sink this country in the end - not foreign terrorists, not armies, but our own divided and increasingly violent population. We're making things REALLY easy for our enemies - they just need to sit back and relax, while we do their dirty work for them and destroy ourselves from within. When our leaders and the media use fear and anger for their own benefit, our national union is damaged in ways that will take years to heal, if in fact it can be healed at this point. We're self-destructing, and all we want to do is cheer for our own team and boo the other guys, like this is professional wrestling or something. But it's not. It's way bigger than that. I always thought we were better than this. And if we're not, then America has truly lost its way.
