For those who don't have the time to take a whale watching trip, images of the magnificent creatures are now just a mouse click away.
Don: "Trustworthy politician" is clearly an oxymoron. In the mystical world of politics spin, half truths, omissions, exaggerations and outright lies are the every day realm of politicians. Combine that with broken promises and it becomes clear that the concept of "trust" falls into the category of; "I'll believe it when I see it". Allowing politicians to make a career of their job means their efforts are more along the lines of helping themselves rather than helping others. Just like the President can only hold office for two terms, so should Congress be on a two term limit. This would put an end to much of the personal "empire" building since they know they will have to leave office near term. This is not a restriction that we can expect them to impose upon themselves, so we must do it at the ballot box. Timely turnover in Congress also would allow for responding more quickly to rapid changes in our society and economy. Career politicians work on retaining the status quo thereby preventing needed change. We end up with greedy old men making decisions for new generations and that just leads to frustration and conflict. More significant changes have occurred in the last 100 or so years than in the several thousand preceding them and yet our government has been mired in self serving partisanship and obstructionism. The only way we can scuttle the ship of state that sails above and beyond our reach is to replace the captain and crew, regularly. If we fail to use our votes wisely we are the ones who will pay the price.
