But now, Americans are capping wells, because of energy prices. Here's an idea that would make us independent while not picking winners and losers. Place a high tariff on foreign produced energy. Protect all American energy producers, just like we protect the sugar farmers and other little interests. Price goes up, people conserve more. Wind won't need a subsidy. Government makes some revenue. Energy market stabilizes. Gas producers aren't driven out of business by the Saudis. Venezuelans, Iranians, Saudis all hurt. Lots of wins.
