AOK: FREE COLLEGE EDUCATION—Hillary’s plan: There is a real problem with that idea! In 1977 JC/Community College was $5 per unit in California. Unprepared young people packed classes and dropped out within 6 or 8 weeks. This also caused successful (prepared) students to be unable to get their needed classes in order to graduate when scheduled. The stats that one of my professors informed me of went this way:... "At that time (again, 1977), only 10% of those who began JC/Community College (1 in 10) ever graduated. Of that 10% who did graduate, some then went on to State College. Of that small group who then transferred to state colleges (then at only $32 per unit), only 10% of them ever graduated from State College. This means that less than 1% of those who started JC or Community College (practically for free) went on to graduate from State College. Meanwhile (1) the California school system, with it's tremendous overhead costs, suffered extreme financial operating deficits, (2) the students, who had no personal economic vested impetus to do well, wasted both theirs and the school faculty's time, (3) California employers were left with an uneducated, unprepared workforce, (4) the state and tax payers suffered economic loss by paying the tab for all this failure, and (5) the state lost economic growth because of an unprepared workforce that produced below par. The lesson is, "There is no such thing as a FREE LUNCH. Without the motivating factor of ‘Self-Investment’ there is insufficient impetus for students to achieve personal academic success." What Hillary is talking about doing is creating a nationwide repetition of what happened in California and that would be a disaster for America. The very bottom line is that SOCIALISM is a failure from the very beginning. What Hillary is proposing is more socialism and on a grand scale. Think about it. Do any of these outcomes sound good to you?
