Queensland Taxi Drivers Call for Government Crackdown on Uber

Dozens of taxi drivers staged a protest against Uber outside the Queensland Parliament in Brisbane on Wednesday, October 14. Protesters chanted “No to illegal taxis” and called for the government to crack down on the ride-hailing app.

Transport Minister Jackie Trad said the government has set up an independent review to study the possibility of incorporating ride-sharing into the existing regulatory framework while ensuring passenger safety and fair competition. Trad was shouted down by demonstrators, who said the review, set to be completed by August 2016, was taking too long. Credit: Chris O’Brien @ ABC News
