James: And yet Trump supporters take umbrage when it is suggested that a large number of them have racist tendencies. Yes, I believe our current electoral system has been rigged but not via voter fraud (which Republicans attribute to racial minorities in large metropolitan areas). The "rigging" has actually been shown in the form of illegal purges of voter registration lists and gerrymandering of voting districts undertaken by Republican-controlled state legislatures in order to skew elections in their favor. I don't necessarily oppose voter ID requirements but I do object to the manner in which many of these voter ID laws are implemented. There is little question that, when you see those rules for obtaining voter ID's, they are deliberately designed to disenfranchise groups who historically vote Democratic. Take a look at what just happened in Wisconsin. Despite the federal judges order that DMV employees be trained to properly instruct citizens on how to obtain a voter ID if they do not have a drivers license, an advocacy group recently recorded DMV employees giving incorrect instructions to a citizen. And this recording was made only days after the Wisconsin Attorney General certified to the federal judge that the training of DMV employees had now been satisfactorily completed. I don't know if those DMV employees were deliberately attempting to mislead that citizen, but the incident does show the very real danger of denying citizens our most basic right in this country - the right to vote for our leaders.
