Ankar: People are confusing our own defense spending with that of NATO's and then think that we some how deserve compensation, is it any wonder why these countries are taking advantage of us. Directly the US pays for 22 percent of NATO's militaristic costs. That's what we are supposed to pay, no more no less. That is appx. 2 percent of our GDP. Indirectly we pay 73 percent, why? Because that's how disproportionate our own defense spending is compared to the rest of the world. That money has nothing to do with NATO. Secondly that money doesn't go to the US even if it did, it goes into a fund for the budget committee for the Alliance. Even if every country in NATO payed 130 percent of their costs we the American people would never see a dime of it. So, honestly if we want to cut NATO spending that's on us, but to say we should be reimbursed for it is frankly moronic.
