Hostess Twinkie Plant To Close After 84 Years

The Hostess Twinkie plant in suburban Schiller Park is going to close ending an 84-year run. The plant will shutter in mid-October and is one of four remaining Hostess bakeries in the country. The new owners who acquired Hostess last summer by bringing the company out of bankruptcy say the closing is necessary to better compete in the marketplace and with more streamlined production facilities at its other plants. Twinkies were invented in Chicago in 1930.
