Trump can't "clarify" anything. His position on illegal immigration was already crystal-clear. All he can do is change his long-held, well-known position on which he has based his entire campaign. If he does that, it will represent a huge flip-flop, and it will cost them a good percentage of his previous supporters. On the other hand, if he sticks to his original position, polls have made it clear that he will lose. He has painted himself into a corner with no way out. The one thing Trump had going for him was the image that he frankly said exactly what he meant. If he does this kind of about-face, on an issue this important, he will forfeit the one strength that he had left.
