The British government's decision to cease giving financial assistance to India by 2015 has come "too soon", said UK-based charity Oxfam. Many UK-based charities such as Oxfam have labelled the decision as hasty. Existing programs will be completed by the given date and Britain will make no new cash commitments. Most of the aid given by the British government is set-aside for some of the country's poorest states. Phillips added that it was now vital for the Indian government to live up to its pledge towards fighting poverty once Britain's aid contribution comes to an end.
