BNP Paribas, France's biggest bank, pleaded guilty to U.S. charges and agreed to give up a record $8.8 billion for violating U.S. sanction laws. Conway G. Gittens reports.
PBJ: Trump supporters, I can understand why you like Trump. You're concerned about immigration. You're concerned about terrorism. I'm curious about a few things, though. 1. Why are you so concerned about immigration? Have you ever considered the possibility that republicans might be exploiting immigration? Republicans are pro-business - this is a basic republican platform - so naturally they support lower tax rates. They claim lower corporate taxes create jobs - even though companies will not create more jobs just because they don't have to pay as much in taxes. Jobs are only created when there's an increase in demand for product. Maybe you see it differently? Ok whatever. What about wages, though? Being pro-business, they want lower wages to increase profits. They claim more profits means more jobs they can create. If they have to pay people more, they can't afford to pay as many people. Alright. However, overwhelming statistics will tell you that wages are stagnant. Meanwhile, corporate profits and executive salaries are at record highs. Doesn't that bother you? Have you considered that maybe republicans use immigrants as a scapegoat? "We don't have to pay you more, wages are low because of immigrants. They steal your jobs and work for less - blame them, focus on them, not us." Have you asked yourself why republicans keep trying to frame illegals as dangerous criminals? I grew up in a heavily Latino area and crime was never a problem. That's just my experience, though. 2. Why aren't you more concerned about other important issues? Why so much focus on only terrorism? Sure, terrorism is a real threat and we should all be concerned. I've just noticed that every Trump supporter I know always mentions immigration and terrorism as two huge reasons to love Trump. Ok, that's fair I guess. But even if Trump is strong on these two issues you're concerned about, what about his weak stances on everything else? I only hear Trump supporters say Trump's going to make America great again, he's going to bring jobs. How? Trump made his own products overseas, and his daughter has done the same (you can google it if you don't believe it). What makes you think he cares about employing Americans? He's a republican businessman - profits are number one. Look at how many "American" companies actually outsource as many jobs as they can to countries where they can pay workers pennies. They don't care about the well-being of people. What makes you automatically assume Trump is different? Do you think he might just want to lower tax rates on the uber-wealthy and corporations, make up the difference by defunding education, keeping wages low, increasing the cost of federal student loans, denying healthcare, Social Security, and Medicare/Medicaid? All while distracting people with fear and hatred of immigrants and Muslims? By the way, I'm not a Hillary supporter. I know she's crooked and fake so don't bother lecturing me about her. I'm a liberal but I can think independently and have sense enough to admit when my party does something wrong. Just wondering if republicans ever consider both sides.
