BoxingCrab: One issue not discussed. Who elects the President? Not the people. The Electoral College. And who are the electorate? See: http://www.fairvote.org/the_electoral_college#how_the_electoral_college_works_today It is entirely possible for a candidate to win the popular vote, even by a considerable margin, and lose the electoral vote. I can see Trump winning the popular vote handily (he is leading in the polls at this writing) and still losing the electoral vote. It happened in 2000 when Al Gore won the popular vote but George W Bush won the electoral vote.
