Video: Watch Samsung Pay in action on the Galaxy S6 edge

One of the main features of Samsung’s shiny new Galaxy S toys is Samsung Pay, the company’s own mobile payments solution that’s supposed to compete directly against Apple Pay. Samsung Pay will not be available immediately to Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge buyers — in fact, it won’t launch until this summer in America and Korea — but Samsung has set up a demo corner at MWC that shows how the feature works, and CNET recorded a video of it.

FROM EARLIER: Apple Pay vs. Samsung Pay: Why Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge might not simply just work

Those of you familiar with the way Apple Pay works on the iPhone will immediately spot the similarities and differences between the two products.

For example, just like with Apple Pay, you can add a credit card to your Samsung Pay wallet by simply using the phone’s camera to scan the credit card.

But when it comes to paying at a compatible terminal, Samsung Pay has a different approach than Apple Pay. Instead of the card appearing on the screen when you approach a payments terminal, on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge you’ll first have to swipe up on the bottom of the screen, authorize the use of the chosen card with your fingerprint, and then hold the handset near the payment terminal to complete the transaction.

A swipe from the top towards the bottom will then show all the purchases made using Samsung Pay.

CNET’s video showing how Samsung Pay works follow below, with an Apple Pay video also available beneath it.
