Video Surfaces Of Tesla Model S Burning To A Crisp

One Tesla owner started the new year with a bang when his Model S caught fire at a Supercharger station in Norway. No one was injured in the blaze, but the car burned to a crisp.

Since 2013, Tesla has fielded concern over its all-electric Model S sedans catching fire. Every year around 180,000 vehicles catch alight across the United States, but Tesla’s romp in the EV market and its place as the darling of Wall Street ensured these few incidents—both of which may not even have been Tesla’s fault—caused global waves.

It’s not clear what happened in this latest incident, but Tesla is said to be investigating. According to local publication NRK, the owner of the car began the charging process and then left. At some point, the Model S caught fire, and due to the car’s lithium battery, firefighters could not put out the blaze with water alone, leaving them to simply manage the fire using a special kind of foam until the car burned entirely.

We’ll likely find out what caused the fire in due course, but Tesla’s stock has reacted mostly in parallel with the market—proving that car fires are not all that uncommon; like in 2013, just because it’s a Tesla doesn’t mean we necessarily have to panic.
