Video shows suspect using metal bar to smash boutique door

DENVER (KDVR) — The owner of Electric Dream boutique in Denver says she is worried about her employees’ safety after a violent incident there on Friday.

“We’ve had a lot of unhoused issues,” said Adrienne Scott-Trask.

Her store is located on Broadway near 1st Avenue. Surveillance video shows a man with a metal bar smashing the front door of the business and threatening the worker.

Scott-Trask said this happened after the employee asked the man to move out of the alcove doorway.

“He essentially went to go attack her, at which point she closed the door, and it’s basically the door that kind of saved her from being hit with this metal pole,” the owner said.

The man was arrested and is facing charges, but Scott-Trask said these kinds of incidents are taking a toll on local businesses. She has pictures of her store entrance being blocked multiple times by people who appeared to be unhoused. She’s also dealt with vandalism and drugs.

“I’m constantly cleaning up vomit, pee, blood clots, etc. You name it, I’ve dealt with it this last year,” she said.

Now she hopes the businesses, and the people, can get some support from the city.

“I really hope they take it seriously or else I think Denver will continue to lose small businesses,” she said.

Denver police say they do work closely with the business watch in the area, which is similar to a neighborhood watch. The agency said it has increased patrols in the area and has a homeless outreach team that offers services to people who need them.
