VIDEO: Tornado in Plymouth — how big was it?

PLYMOUTH, Ohio (WJW) — A FOX 8 viewer captured video of a tornado Thursday night as severe storms, including tornado warnings, swept through parts of NE Ohio.

Mason Martin took the video above from a vehicle near state Route 598 and Henry Road in Plymouth during the storm.

Tornado confirmed in Plymouth

The National Weather Service Friday confirmed an EF-2 tornado touched down in the village. It began along Marsh Road just northeast of New Washington in Crawford County and continued east into northern Richland County, lifting along Willet Road east of Plymouth.

Winds were estimated at 120 miles per hour. The max width was 250 yards. The tornado was on the ground for just over 10 miles.

Richland County and Huron County officials released details about the storm damage in Plymouth because the town straddles both counties.

Richland County EMA said that tornado sirens were activated at 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

MA Director for Richland County, Rebecca Owens said damage includes the roof and backside of a home “torn off,” a flipped vehicle, and a camper destroyed.

According to Fox 8 Meteorologist Scott Sabol, based on the storm report from the Huron County Emergency Management Agency, the tornado was roughly a half-mile wide.

The last time a March tornado in the FOX 8 viewing area was reported as an EF2 (or greater) was in 1986.

“Ironically, the March 1986 tornado was roughly five miles from yesterday’s tornado location,” said Sabol.
