Video: Puppy chases car after being abandoned in California

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A heartbreaking video shows a puppy, believed to be about 3 months old, chasing a car in California after someone inside the vehicle abandoned the dog.

The incident happened on Thursday, April 25, at the Country Living Mobile Home Park in Fresno.

Management at the mobile home community contacted the Fresno Animal Center after witnessing someone dump the female German Shepard mix out of the car, animal resource officer Rudy Pina told Nexstar’s KSEE/KGPE.

Surveillance video shows the puppy running, desperately trying to catch up to the vehicle after being abandoned.

Pina said management at the mobile home park was able to safely capture the dog and hold onto her until animal control officers were able to pick her up.

“Luckily, the mobile home park management was very adamant about securing the dog on their own, which we’re very thankful for and which was able to have a great outcome for the animal,” Pina said, adding that this type of incident is not uncommon.

“Unfortunately, our animal control department responds to animal abandonment calls every single week in the city of Fresno,” he explained.

Pina said he hopes more awareness is brought to this issue.

According to shelter officials, the rescued puppy is very friendly and is now ready for adoption. Anyone interested in adopting her can visit Fresno Animal Center’s website here.

Pina said that a police report has been filed and the incident is being investigated. Under California law, anyone who willingly abandons an animal can face misdemeanor charges.
