Video premiere: Doyle Bramhall II performs ode to late father, 'November'

Doyle Bramhall II’s latest album, Rich Man — released in September 2016 — marked his first in more than a decade, and details his intensive spiritual and musical journey that took him to India and Africa in search of new sounds. The musician also used his travels to seek inner peace following the death of his legendary father, Doyle Bramhall, who died in 2011.

Yahoo Music is pleased to debut a performance of his track “November,” which features Adam Minkoff accompanying him on piano.

The tune is “a love song to my late father,” explains Bramhall. “I loved him dearly, but there were things in our relationship that we hadn’t voiced or reconciled. Before he passed, I experienced an awakening where the burden of all that stuff was lifted and I went through a spiritual metamorphosis. I just didn’t get the chance to tell him, because he died unexpectedly.”

“November” has the essence of favorite R&B records the two listened to as Bramhall grew up, he explains.

“[My father’s] words and who he was resonates with me now, and through his passing I was inspired to take a journey to find my voice and my truth and begin fully living,” he said.

Bramhall will play a number of dates through the end of 2017. If you’d like to keep up with his schedule, check here.
