Video Premiere: Andy Black & Juliet Simms Cover Adele’s ‘When We Were Young’

Back on Season 2 of The Voice, punk went pop when Juliet Simms, a Warped Tour veteran and former frontwoman for Automatic Loveletter, competed and made it all the way to the finale. Now she has teamed with her husband, Black Veil Brides singer Andy Black (also known as Andy Biersack and Andy Six) for the seventh installment in Fearless Records’ Punk Goes Pop compilation series, dueting on Adele’s “When We Were Young.” Yahoo Music’s Reality Rocks is excited to premiere the rock ‘n’ roll couple’s gorgeous black-and-white video for their rendition of the 25 tearjerker today.

“We have always wanted to have the opportunity to work together on a duet, and when we were approached about doing this it seemed like a no-brainer,” says Black. “[Esteemed producer and Goldfinger singer/guitarist] John Feldmann and his excellent studio engineers helped us craft a rendition of the song that we both feel represents our love of the theatrical romantic ballads of a bygone era in music, while retaining a modern ‘rock’ feel throughout. Shooting the video with longtime friend and creative collaborator Patrick Fogarty was a blast and he really captured the feeling of old Hollywood noir and beauty in the video.”

“I was honored to be a part of this song. Getting to work with John Feldmann fulfills a life long dream of mine,” says Simms. “The fact that I also got to work with one of my favorite artists who happens to be my best friend and husband made it that much more surreal for me. I adore this song and feel a strong connection to it, so I can only hope that conveys. Shooting the video with our dear friend Patrick was all too perfect. His artistry and keen eye for dark beauty is what the video called for. The storyline of the video, though seemingly quite simple, was a tale of two lovers, feeling worlds apart, searching for something that time takes away from us all. I think any person can relate to wanting to go back in time which is what we were going for.”

Punk Goes Pop Volume 7 is out today. Other tracks include State Champs covering Shawn Mendes’s “Stitches,” the Amity Affliction’s doing the Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face,” Grayscale covering Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself,” and Capsize taking on “Fake Love” by Drake.
