Video of Cat Clinging to Car Door in Dubai Floods Is So Sad

A horrifying video shows a cat clinging for life at the handle of a car door during a flood in Dubai. Thankfully, rescue workers found the cat during the storm on April 16, but the video shows how easily things could have gone a drastically different way.

The clip is heart stopping, It shows the cat hanging on for dear life as the water rises around it.

Shared by ABC News, the video shows that flood waters had reached dangerous levels. Cars were submerged under the water — it's honestly lucky that the cat managed to grab hold of something instead of floating away.

The video shows rescue workers making their way to the cat via boat and snapping it up as they float by. The cat yowled — we're sure it was so scared. Thankfully the cat seemed fine once it was inside the rescue boat and realized it was finally safe.

The video's caption noted that Dubai received two years worth of rain that day. Or 6.26 inches of rain, as Fox Weather reports. The regain normally receives about 3.14 inches in a single year.

On Tuesday, the United Arab Emirate's National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority asked all residents to "stay at home," the news outlet reports. They advised that residents only leave their homes, "in cases of extreme necessity."

The same rain system caused flooding in the Arabian Peninsula, including bordering countries Oman and Bahrain. The flash flood has proven to be deadly. In Oman the flood killed 18 people, including 10 children who were on the school bus when it was swept away by the rising water.

NDTV reports that that highways in Dubai were heavily flooded. The roadways received more than 259.5 millimetres of rain — the most since the records were started more than 75 years ago. Dubai Airport also had its fair share of difficulties from the storm. The area's largest international hub; many flights were cancelled, diverted, or delayed from the water.

Airline officials also warned passengers not to come to the airport, "unless absolutely necessary".

"Flights continue to be delayed and diverted," a spokesperson told NDTV.

People online were thankful that rescue workers were able to get the cat before the worst could happen. "Thank you so much for saving that kitty!" wrote one person. "Imagine being there for hours and cold," someone else chimed in. "The last meow was a thank you," a third person added.

But we have to agree with the wise words of another commenter: "Not all heroes wear capes!"
