Victorious Ukraine will be one of Europe’s most powerful nations, Latvian president says

The YES conference is traditionally organized every year by Ukrainian oligarch Viktor Pinchuk. The event moved from Yalta, Crimea, to Kyiv – following the illegal Russian annexation of the peninsula in 2014.

“I’m absolutely certain that – after the war, after the Ukrainian victory – Ukraine will become of the most powerful European nations,” said Levits.

“We must support Ukraine; we must make our contribution to the victory. This is our shared burden.”

The president stressed that the eventual peace deal has to be made on Ukraine’s terms, in accordance with international law.

“It’s not our place to nudge Ukraine to some sort of negotiated compromise,” Levits added.

“An enduring peace can only emerge from adhering to internationally-recognized values and norms.”
