UPDATE: Victim of fatal stabbing in Tuscola identified after man charged with murder

Mar. 14—TUSCOLA — A Tuscola man was charged with murder Thursday in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man a day earlier in the city.

Douglas County Judge Kate Watson ruled that Joshua M. Henderson, 42, must await trial in jail after he was charged with two varying counts of first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

Douglas County Coroner Lisa Edwards said the victim of the fatal stabbing was Phillip Sanders, 56, of Tuscola. Mr. Sanders was pronounced dead on scene.

Douglas County State's Attorney Robert Kosic confirmed that the incident involved a fatal stabbing Wednesday afternoon in Tuscola.

Kosic said he couldn't comment on Henderson's prior whereabouts, but indicated that the man has resided in Tuscola "at least for a time."

Henderson, who listed an address in the 400 block of South Parke Street, faces 20 to 60 years in prison if convicted of murder.

After the judge granted the state's petition to deny Henderson pretrial release, his next court appearance was scheduled for April 15.
