New veterinary urgent care on Spartanburg's west side open until 11 p.m. What to know.

Emergencies don’t always happen between 9-5, and thanks to a new west side veterinary practice, Spartanburg pet owners have more options for nighttime medical issues.

Palmetto Animal Urgent Care opened March 4. The urgent care clinic is an extension of Palmetto Animal Clinic, located at 1248 Southport Road.

Dr. Stefanie Gagliardi and Dr. Meagan Payton-Russell are the veterinarians at Palmetto Animal Urgent Care. The practice provides care for pets when your regular vet service centers are closed. One of the pets is taken to Dr. Stefanie Gagliardi for care.

A collaboration between veterinarians Dr. Stefanie Gagliardi and Dr. Meagan Payton-Russell, Palmetto Animal Urgent Care offers diagnostic and surgical services, including c-sections and bloat surgeries. Gagliardi specializes in small animal reproduction and practice management, while Dr. Payton-Russell, specializes in emergency medicine and soft tissue surgery.

Palmetto Animal Urgent Care is one of two clinics open after 7 p.m. in Spartanburg and is the only privately owned clinic. The other is UrgentVet-Spartanburg (111 E Blackstock Road), which opened in November.

Before these clinics, if a pet needed urgent care in the evenings or at night, owners would have to drive them to Greenville, where the nearest 24-hour vets are.

"I know a lot of the doctors over there and a lot of them are overwhelmed," Payton-Russell said. "So we're just kind of filling that gap between daytime doctors, who are actually also overwhelmed, and then the ER."

The urgent care clinic is open from 5-11 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. One doctor is on every shift, along with three to four technicians.
