Vero Beach Police: Man arrested, charged in woman's stabbing

VERO BEACH – A man was arrested Thursday after police said he attacked a woman the night before leading to her hospitalization for stab wounds.

The 34-year-old was taken to a hospital and underwent surgery for extensive internal injuries following a reported domestic violence-related assault late Wednesday, according to Vero Beach police records.

Trayvious “Tray” Hullet, also 34, was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The incident occurred in the 1800 block of 41st Avenue south of 20th Street in a residential area where records stated the woman was living out of a car and where she was found by police at roughly 11:45 p.m. with an abdominal stab wound sitting on a sofa in an apartment dumpster area.

Detectives reviewed security footage of nearby residences and buildings, which they said documented the roughly 2-minute attack. A man is seen physically attacking the woman before walking away, only to return and continue the assault before the stabbing.

“Before the suspect leaves, he is observed wiping an item off and placing it in the dumpster,” according to police records.

Detectives learned the woman was in a relationship with Hullet who was also listed as homeless in police records.

Residents of nearby apartments and other homeless people in the area told detectives they knew the woman and Hullett and said the two had a dispute about drugs.

The woman was treated for six intestinal lacerations and wounds leading to the removal of her spleen, according to police records.

Hullett was arrested just before 2:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of 17th Street Thursday, and law enforcement records show he remains in the Indian River County Jail on $500,000 bail.

Police and court records show the arrest is in relation to the second stabbing involving homeless people in April. A 41-year-old man was arrested April 4 and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for what police said was the stabbing of another homeless man in the 1700 block of 14th Avenue.
