Verizon to add 500 new jobs at Tulsa facility

Verizon announces plans for financial services hub, intent to add 500 new jobs in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Verizon says it will create a financial services hub at its facility in Tulsa, adding 500 new jobs.

Gov. Mary Fallin joined company officials Friday to make the announcement. Verizon already employs more than 900 people at its Tulsa facility.

The company says the new jobs will be finance and accounting positions. Fallin says the new positions represent the kind of "high-quality, good-paying jobs" that Oklahoma wants to attract to the state.

Verizon serves local, long distance, wireless and data customers in Oklahoma. It has about 1,200 employees statewide and an annual payroll of about $85 million in the state.

Verizon says it reviewed several cities before settling on Tulsa for the financial services center.
