‘Venom’: Woody Harrelson In Talks To Reunite With Ruben Fleischer For Comic Book Movie
Woody Harrelson is the latest to high-profile actor eyeing a role in Sony’s upcoming comic book supervillain pic Venom. The Academy Award-nominated actor is in talks to join the cast in an undisclosed role. Sony declined to comment, but sources say talks are underway.
Once he signs on, Harrelson will be reunited with director Ruben Fleischer, who he worked with on the horror comedy Zombieland. He will also join Tom Hardy, who plays the titular antihero as well as previously announced cast members Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, and Jenny Slate.
Venom will be Spider-Man-centric, but won’t be related to the Spider-Man cinematic universe, which includes the recent Sony/Marvel Studios collaboration Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Fleischer will direct a script from Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. Matt Tolmach, Avi Arad, and Amy Pascal will produce. The movie is set to open on October 5, 2018.
Harrelson isn’t a stranger to fanboy fodder as he recently starred in War for the Planet of the Apes and appears in the upcoming Han Solo standalone pic, Solo: A Star Wars Story. He can also be seen in Martin McDonagh’s awards season film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing.
