Video: Vehicle found, driver sought after deadly pedestrian hit-and-run in Norristown

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - A man was struck and killed by a vehicle as police say the search is still on for the driver who left him for dead.

Officers responded to Main and Astor streets in Norristown to find an unresponsive man in the center median Sunday night.

The 57-year-old pedestrian was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the striking vehicle did not stop, and sped off after the deadly crash.

Ryan Clark’s cameras at Norristown Tattoo Company captured the moment he says was a tragedy waiting to happen.

"Every day it’s like risking your life trying to cross this intersection and every day I watch someone who is speeding, driving recklessly, driving aggressively, or all of the above," Clark said. "It’s near misses, it’s vehicles, it’s properties, and now unfortunately, it’s the loss of life."

He hopes what is supposed to be a 25 mph stretch on Main Street can get some kind of traffic control leading up to the light at Markley Street.

Neighbors say the victim, who police have not identified, lived on their tight-knit block of Pearl Street.

"Just the type of person that would go out late at night, didn’t bother anybody, very sweet, we’re going to miss him," Lisa Lowery said. "His mother and sister are going to be devastated."

The community hopes the driver will do the right thing.

"It’s not right, what if that was one of your family members?" Lowery said. "Do the right thing and turn yourself in."

The vehicle, a Hyundai SUV, was found unoccupied Monday afternoon at Wood and Arch streets, but police have yet to release a description of the suspected driver.
