Tractor-trailer ignites into flames on I-77 in Carroll County, no injuries

UPDATE: 9:16 A.M. CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police says no one was hurt after a tractor-trailer went up in flames on I-77 in Carroll County.

Details remain limited; however, around 5:43 a.m. on May 2, troopers were called to the fire on the southbound side. We’re told a tractor-trailer was carrying cat food.

Crews from Carroll County including the Hillsville Fire Department worked to extinguish the fire.

Since then, all lanes on I-77 have been reopened and traffic is flowing in the area.

UPDATE: 7:32 A.M. CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — VDOT says traffic is backed up on I-77 in Carroll County for about three miles after a vehicle fire early Thursday morning.

Currently, traffic is still being diverted to one lane.

UPDATE: 6:25 A.M. CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — One lane on I-77 South in Carroll County is open after a vehicle caught fire.

First responders are on the scene and traffic is backed up for almost two miles.



CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Morning commuters traveling on Interstate 77 in Carroll County can expect delays after a vehicle went up in flames on Thursday morning.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says the fire is in the southbound lanes at mile marker 10.5, near the Hillsville area.

All southbound lanes are closed, and traffic is at a standstill.

Smoke can be seen from the highway and drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes until the incident is cleared.

Currently, it is unknown if anyone is hurt.
