Vegas visitor tally flat, room rates up in April

Vegas visitor tally up 0.5 percent in April 2013 from 2012; room rates up nearly 7 percent

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Tourism officials say they counted 3.34 million visitors to Las Vegas in April, up a slight 0.5 percent from the same month in 2012.

A Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority report released Monday showed that that hotel room rates increased almost 7 percent — from a little more than $108 in April 2012 to just under $116 this year.

Room occupancy was also up slightly, from 86.5 percent to 87 percent.

Tourism officials say 15 percent more conventions in Las Vegas in April drew 15 percent more convention-goers during the month.

But the CVA says that because April 2012 was a strong month for casinos, gambling revenues were down by comparison in April — by 1 percent in Clark County and 2.3 percent on the Las Vegas Strip.
