Vegas visitor count down 1 percent in short February; county gambling revenue up 18 percent
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Tourism authorities say the number of visitors to Las Vegas dipped slightly this February compared with last year, thanks to the lack of a leap day.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said Wednesday that about 3 million visitors came to town in February, down 1.3 percent from last year's 29-day month. Officials say visitation would've been up more than 2 percent if this February was just as long.
Convention attendance was down 20 percent year-over-year.
Room occupancy was up from last February at 84 percent, and average hotel room rates ticked up less than 1 percent to $109 per night.
Gambling revenue for Clark County, where Las Vegas is located, was up 18 percent to $956 million.
