VBPD launches Keep Virginia Beach Safe program

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) announced Wednesday its new Keep Virginia Beach Safe program.

VBPD says this is the next step in launching a Real Time Crime Center (RTCC).

The program allows Virginia Beach residents and business owners to voluntarily register their security cameras with the RTCC using Fusus, a state-of-the art software program.

According to the news release, camera registration does not provide live video access to VBPD. It does however, provide the camera location information for use if an incident occurs.

Camera owners will only be contacted if investigators need assistance collecting camera footage. In the event of a theft for example, VBPD may request from a store owner a recorded video to quicken the process of evidence gathering.

“The Keep Virginia Beach Safe program, as part of the Real Time Crime Center, will allow us to take our approach to leveraging technology as a force multiplier to the next level,” said VBPD Police Chief Paul Neudigate. “Bringing this program online will help us fulfill our commitment to data-driven practices and technology-centered policing.”

Cameras can be registered with VBPD through the self-service portal.
