10 On Your Side’s Ashley Knight confirmed the pier’s opening with D. Nachnani, a spokesperson for the family that owns the pier.

Nachnani told 10 On Your Side this is only a soft opening; the grand opening will be Friday, May 3 from noon to 2 p.m.

Last month, Nachnani told WAVY the pier was scheduled to reopen April 1, but rainy weather caused setbacks with the reopening.

In January, a 57-year-old man crashed through the gate of the 14th Street Pier and drove over the edge.

Recovery of the vehicle was delayed for almost a week due to weather. When crews pulled the vehicle from the water, they found the 57-year-old man’s body inside.
