Variety, spice and more from Hesperia Market food vendors: Dining Around

Health food, fast food, and combinations thereof are on tasty display every Saturday, thanks to the talented food vendors at the Hesperia Community Farmers Market at the Civic Plaza Park.

Whether the vendor is new or has years of experience, the resulting dishes and drinks available are bound to please.

This is everyone’s chance to venture forth into untried culinary country. New foods and new flavor combinations are beautifully presented and served for your enjoyment as you walk around the market or sit and relax while you eat.

Nadi’s Crepes

The slogan on the sandwich board outside Nadi Altamirano’s trailer at the HCFM offers some tasty advice: “Live Life. Eat Crepes.”

Whether selling delicious crepes and more at farmers markets or events with other vendors to raise funds to support activities like HD Vipers softball/baseball, Nadi’s Crepes started after Nadi received a crepe maker for Christmas some years ago.

Crepes and pancakes are similar, though pancakes usually have a rising agent making them slightly thicker. Eaten flat or folded, crepes are often covered with a variety of sweet or savory toppings.

Nadi began making crepes from her own recipes in the family kitchen.

Everyone raved about her crepes because Nadi displayed a real talent for them, and with her senior year looming ─ and wanting to earn money to pay for all the extra activities ─ Nadi knew that selling crepes would be a fun job.

Her family agreed to help, and after the canopy arrived, Nadi and several family members set up shop at area Farmers Markets. Her crepes were an immediate hit.

Today, Nadi works from a trailer. Besides crepes, she offers mini pancakes ─ from 10 to 50 pancakes per order with fruits and toppings ─ and her popular cup of Fresas con Crema (strawberries and cream with toppings and more).

Her “Build A Crepe” feature with unlimited toppings is also in demand and look for snow cones this summer.

She is thankful for her customers, family and employers who have made everything possible.

The photos on the “Nadis Crepes” Facebook page show just a few of the tempting goodies available, and there’s an Instagram page, too.

Squeezed N Shaked Juicery

Dashelle Day drives from Kern County to the Hesperia Market alternate Saturdays with her homemade signature juices made from the freshest possible fruits and vegetables.

Her slogan, “the juice is definitely worth the squeeze,” speaks truth, and you’ll know that as soon as you take your first sip, and samples are available for each of the juices she brings.

While we were speaking to Dashelle, the customer comments were positive. Most of them described the flavors were “bright and natural,” and many

Dashelle makes her juices without water or sugar. Everything is “squeezed or shaked” and if the resulting juice needs to be sweetened, she adds raw unfiltered honey, certain sweeter fruits, or coconut water.

Dashelle combines unusual ingredients ─ spinach and pineapple, for example ─ that provide many essential vitamins and minerals in addition to enzymes our bodies needs to heal and then to stay healthy. Beet and lemonade, sweetened with dates, is another popular juice combinations that brings customers to Squeezed N Shaked when she is in town.

Customer comments proved that even people who don’t care for beets will likely find this juice to be very tasty.

After Dashelle discovered how much better she felt drinking juices and combinations, she began educating others on the benefits they too could enjoy by following her example.

Her Instagram account, squeezednshakedjuicery, has many pictures of past events and information about the benefits of some of her ingredients like sea moss, a type of vegan, gluten free source of many nutrients.

Leave a message on her Instagram account or come to the market to ask about catering your special events. Ask about her Squeezed N Shaked smoothies, teas and coffee options as well.
