Vanderbilt basketball freshman guard Peyton Daniels has entered the transfer portal, The Tennessean has confirmed.

Daniels was rated a three-star recruit by the 247Sports Composite.

He averaged 13 minutes in the Commodores' first three games, averaging three points and four rebounds. His best game came against Alabama State, when he had eight points and two 3-pointers.

According to Commodores coach Jerry Stackhouse, Daniels missed time during the preseason with a disciplinary issue, requiring Stackhouse to give Daniels "tough love."

"He's just a young kid coming to college for the first time," Stackhouse said Oct. 27. "Had to put him on punishment a little bit, but he's good. ... We're teaching them how to be the young men and be responsible and be where he's supposed to be on time and do all those types of things. He's learning and he's getting better, but he'll be back with us soon."

Daniels' departure leaves Vanderbilt (2-1) thin at the guard position while Rodney Chatman recovers from a knee injury. Chatman is expected to return in December. The Commodores are set to host Winthrop on Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium.

Tyrin Lawrence and Scotty Pippen Jr. have been the starting guards, and Lawrence, still limited while recovering from a torn ACL last season, has played fewer minutes. Sophomore Trey Thomas and freshman Shane Dezonie have been getting the majority of bench minutes at guard beyond Daniels, whose departure likely means a bigger role for each.

Thomas has averaged 13 minutes this season, and Dezonie has averaged 12. Both are averaging 2.7 points, with poor field-goal shooting but good numbers from the free-throw line.
