NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Vanderbilt baseball ushered in the preseason with a scrimmage at Hawkins Field.

The Vandy Boys, who are ranked 6th in Division-I Baseball’s preseason poll, have a solid core group of returners hungry after their season ended far too early last year.

Vandy won the 2023 SEC Tournament, but fell in the NCAA Regional they hosted. Head coach Tim Corbin sees the potential in his team. They just have to put in the work to achieve it.

“You create a visual for the players in terms of what it potentially can look like,” Corbin said. “There’s a reason why teams don’t get to a super regional. There’s a reason why teams don’t even get to a regional and to identify that and then understand, yeah, that’s a past experience, but at the same time, you can use those experiences moving forward.”

“We have not only experience back on the mound, but a lot of experience back on the field and outfield,” said LHP Carter Holton. “Just an older group of guys, a good core right there and then just having those young freshmen that they’re going to…they’re going to play some, so being able to teach them and help them through the tough times as well.”

The Commodores open the regular season at home with a three-game series against Florida Atlantic beginning Friday, Feb. 16.
