Released in 2012, "Underworld: Awakening" earned over $160 million worldwide at the box office.

Although the fourth and latest "Underworld" movie was released just two years ago, Lakeshore Entertainment is already working on a reboot of the vampire franchise, which starred Kate Beckinsale.

Since the release of the first movie in 2003, the franchise earned a total of over $460 million at the global box office, including $160 million for the last film, "Underworld: Awakening," in 2012. So it's no surprise that the studio is interested in reviving the brand with a fifth installment.

The first four movies revolve around Selene, a powerful vampire warrior played by Kate Beckinsale. The heroine is devoted to waging war against the Lycans, a race of werewolves, until she falls in love with a member of the enemy faction.

While there is no word yet on whether the actress will return for the reboot, producers Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi have already brought in screenwriter Cory Goodman ("Apollo 18") to pen the script.
