Vallejo man sentenced to 10 years for child pornography possession

(KRON) — A 45-year-old Vallejo resident was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography, the United States Department of Justice announced Wednesday. Jose Navarro Mendoza pleaded guilty in May of 2023 to one count of possession of child pornography.

The defendant possessed more than 1,500 images and videos of child pornography on his electronic devices, including nearly 100 files involving infants and toddlers, according to the government’s sentencing memorandum. Additional evidence suggested he used social media and messaging apps to take part in chat groups where users exchanged child pornography.

The defendant, according to the DOJ, also groomed and sexually abused members of his own extended family when they were between 6 and 11 years old. These victims included two minors who told investigators the defendant rubbed their bodies and touched their genitalia.

The defendant was sentenced by the Hon. Charles R. Breyer who ordered that in addition to his prison sentence, he serve five years of supervised release. The defendant’s prosecution was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
