Vacant house heavily damaged by Lafayette fire Thursday

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– A vacant home in the 700 block of Elizabeth Avenue in Lafayette sustained heavy amounts of fire damage early Thursday.

Lafayette police officers spotted the fire, and when firefighters arrived at the location, they saw the house was fully engulfed. The flames were tamed within 15 minutes, according to the Lafayette Fire Department.

The home was heavily damaged and two nearby residences sustained minor fire damages.

Neighbors informed firefighters the home has been empty for 10 years aside from vagrants that were seen going into the home, according to LFD.
