Virginia SCC plans August hearings on Appalachian Power rate hike requests

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- August hearings are set on two proposed rate increases sought by Appalachian Power.

The State Corporation Commission said Monday that it will hold a hearing Aug. 28 on the utility's request to recover more than $11 million in costs associated with its natural gas-fired power plant in Dresden, Ohio. The deadline for public comments is Aug. 21.

Appalachian Power, a unit of American Electric Power Co., also seeks recovery of more than $38 million associated with installing equipment to meet state and federal environmental requirements. A hearing on that rate increase proposal is scheduled for April 29. The deadline for public comments is Aug. 22.

Both hearings will be held in the SCC's courtroom in downtown Richmond.
