Va. AG opposes APCo bid to recover costs

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Supreme Court is expected to issue a ruling in early November on Appalachian Power Co.'s bid to recover $33.3 million in disputed environmental costs.

Virginia regulators have already ruled that the power company was not entitled to recover the costs from customers. Wednesday, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli's office went before justices on behalf of customers.

In a statement, Cuccinelli said it's his job to ensure that electric customers pay no more than the law demands.

Appalachian Power serves about 500,000 customers in Virginia.
