UTA plans several TRAX-related construction projects – Here’s what to know

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — If you ride any of Utah Transit Authority’s TRAX lines, prepare for a few hiccups this summer.

UTA is planning several projects this summer that are expected to begin in mid-May and continue through until the end of October for its entire TRAX service. The projects consist of essential maintenance of rails and crossings as well as a few improvements.

“Our goal is to carry out these necessary improvements while ensuring that our services remain as uninterrupted as possible,” said Rail Infrastructure Project Manager Jacob Wouden. “We appreciate the patience and understanding of our community of these short-term impacts as we work to improve and maintain the quality, safety, and reliability of our system long into the future.”

A breakdown of UTA’s TRAX-related projects can be found below:

  • May 12-27: TRAX Blue Line construction and bus bridge; performing rail maintenance and replacing grade crossing components between Fashion Place West and Midvale Center stations

  • June 9-12: TRAX Red Line and Blue Line construction and bus bridge; replacing grade crossing components at 5900 South between Fashion Place West and Murray Central stations

  • June 15-18: TRAX Red Line and Blue Line construction and bus bridge; replacing grade crossing components on 3900 South between Murray North and Millcreek stations

  • June 23: TRAX Red Line and Blue Line construction and bus bridge; replacing FrontRunner grade crossing components at 5900 South between Fashion Place West and Murray Central stations

  • July 10-12: All TRAX lines construction and bus bridge; replacing grade crossing components on 1700 South between Central Pointe and Ballpark stations

  • July 13-17: All TRAX lines construction and bus bridge; replacing grade crossing components on 1300 South between Central Pointe and 900 South stations

  • Aug. 10-15: All TRAX lines construction and bus bridge; replacing rail components on TRAX Blue and Red Lines between Millcreek and Ballpark stations and on TRAX Green Line between River Trail and Central Pointe stations

  • Aug. 23–25: TRAX Green Line construction and bus bridge; replacing grade crossing components at Parkway Ave. between Redwood Junction and Central Pointe

  • Sept. 8-13: TRAX Blue Line construction and bus bridge; replacing grade crossing components at 9400 South between Midvale Center and Sandy Civic stations

  • Oct. 8-14: TRAX Blue Line construction and bus bridge; replacing grade crossing components at 9000 South between Midvale Center and Historic Sandy stations

UTA said its projects and schedules are “approximate and subject to change” depending on weather, material and other delays. Drivers and pedestrians in the project areas can expect some temporary changes and detours around the work.
