This Is Us star Mandy Moore has welcomed an adorable pet dog to her family.

Sharing the sweet update on her Instagram, the actress posted an image of her new pet, named Marshmallow, revealing she and husband Taylor Goldsmith had adopted the dog after he was found wandering the streets.

"This sweet boy was found wandering the streets for several days, many miles from here by our beloved nanny, Celina," she wrote in the caption.

"He's about 6-7 months, un-chipped, not fixed (but scheduled for next week) and just the most unexpectedly wonderful addition to our gang."

She continued: "We weren't looking for another dog but he was looking for us and the fact that he looks remarkably like our dear Joni made it too impossible to ignore." Joni was a dog previously belonging to the actress, who died in 2020 aged 12.

The actress added that their current pets aren't too bothered by the new family member but Marshmallow is "slowly winning them over."

Moore also revealed the pup's name came from her son, two-year-old Gus, who came up with the sweet moniker "without hesitation."

"When we showed Gus a picture of him and asked what his name was, without hesitation he shouted 'Marshmallow!' With his arms in the air," she added.

"Can't wait for all of the adventures, sir!!"
