Buying concert tickets online with Ticketmaster is pretty fool-proof, except for the fact that there was a substantial class action lawsuit against them three years ago. According to the website for the lawsuit, the Schlesinger vs. Ticketmaster case claimed that some of Ticketmaster’s fees were misleading and confusing for customers.

The tricky fee in question was an Order Processing Fee, which was described as being based on what was called processing costs but was actually a nasty profit generator that the website required their customers to pay when they purchased a ticket. Ugh! Another complaint concerned the fee for UPS delivery of tickets, and the lawsuit alleged that it was “a pass-through for the amount that UPS charged Ticketmaster for the delivery.”

So, what does all this MEAN? Well, apart from the fact that the lawsuit was settled for a whopping $400 million, Ticketmaster is issuing vouchers and free tickets to customers who purchased tickets online between October 21st, 1999 – February 27, 2013. That’s a pretty big window, so chances are you might be eligible for a reward.

All you have to do is sign in to your account page, and click “Active Vouchers.” That will allow you to see the amount of the reward. Don’t get TOO excited though, apparently they’re only worth $2.25 each because more than 50 million people were involved in the suit (there’s always a catch, sigh). As LiveNation explains there are also free tickets are available for General Admission concert seating, but only on a first-come, first-served basis. Of course, they’re subject to all the normal limitations and availability… you know the drill.

Basically, you should just stop what you’re doing and log into your Ticketmaster account now to see what’s up!
