Used shoe drive to help seniors in the Grand Valley

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo (KREX) — Senior Engagement of Grand Junction kicked off its first-ever used shoe drive. Senior Engagement of Grand Junction is a nonprofit which provides resources and support to seniors in our community.

Brenda Case, the founder of Senior Engagement of Grand Junction, is looking for your used shoes. “Basically if there’s something that is recyclable on them we will take them,” Case told WesternSlopeNow. She says the less used the shoes the better, but even the most run-down shoes donated will go to an organization that either fixes the shoes up or strips them for parts.

“The fact that they’re recycling as much as they possibly can and they’re not sending these to the landfill is super important to us,” Case said.

After the shoes are collected and sent off to the recycling organization, Case says the shoes will be donated or resold if they’re able to be refurbished. The shoes themself won’t go to local seniors, but the funds raised by donating will go to provide resources and support local seniors.
