USDA helps people living in rural West Virginia access remote education and healthcare through grant applications

GHENT, WV (WVNS) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development has begun the application process for grants to help rural residents of the Mountain State.

This process will help people in rural West Virginia communities access remote education and health care.

Rural Development has $60 million in funding available under the Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) Grant Program. This program helps with distance learning and telemedicine services, and helping people connect with education and healthcare through video and audio. This program also helps people that have limited or unavailable resources due to being in remote parts of the country.

Examples of this funding include:

  • Helping students to participate in classes that are too far to access in person.

  • Helping teachers to provide their educational services to students across the country.

  • Helping patients to get specialized care and treatment from medical professionals without having to leave their homes or communities.

Applicants who are eligible include:

  • State and local governmental entities.

  • Federally recognized Tribes.

  • Nonprofits and for-profit businesses.

It is mandatory that applications must be submitted electronically no later than April 29, 2024. You can click here to submit your application.
