USA Today readers name Southeast Portland spot among best beer bars nationwide

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Southeast Portland business has been declared one of the top beer bars in the country.

Belmont Station on Southeast Stark Street nabbed the No. 3 spot in the “best beer bar” category for USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

The business opened as a can and bottle shop in 1997, and now has more than 1,400 types of beer, cider, wine and other beverages for shoppers to select from. Biercafé, Belmont Station’s neighboring bar, offers 35 drafts on tap.

“The bar and Biercafé also hosts regular events, from Meet the Brewer nights to the annual Puckerfest, a week-long celebration of sour and wild ales,” USAToday added. “In the crowded Oregon beer scene, Belmont Station remains at the forefront.”

The national news company calls on an expert panel to nominate the top businesses, destinations, activities in each category, before readers cast their votes for the finalists.

As the only Pacific Northwest entry on the list, Belmont Station said its placement at No. 3 was “not too shabby.”

O’Brien’s Pub in San Diego took the top spot in the category, while Hop City Beer & Wine in Birmingham, Ala., was awarded second place.
