USA Cycling is kicking off a new talent-identification program aimed at underrepresented and more diverse communities, with the hopes of finding and developing riders for America’s track cycling program.

The program, called Search For Speed, kicked off earlier this month with a pair of open tryouts at Los Angeles’s VELO Sports Center and the Los Angeles Bike Academy. With support from Rapha, LOOK, and Wattbike, USA Cycling will continue to host two open tryouts each month in March, April, and May, where anyone can come and participate in two measuring events: a vertical jump and a 30-second Wattbike power test.

From there, the top participants will be invited to a more in-depth cycling combine which will then allow the best performers to qualify for talent integration and development camps, all in the hopes of producing a more diverse talent pool for the future of USA Cycling's track racing program.

Search For Speed is helmed by program manager Sterling Magnell, who has spent three decades racing, coaching, and managing cycling teams. Most recently, Magnell spent seven years as the head coach of the Rwandan National Cycling Team.

Cyclists and non-cyclists alike are encouraged to attend the tryouts and while there is no age limit for the tryouts, cyclists under 18 must have permission from a parent or guardian.
