An armed student who shot two others at a US high school has died, according to St. Mary’s County Sheriff Tim Cameron.
According to the sheriff, the school resource officer engaged the shooter and put an end to the attack.
The shooter was later pronounced dead and the officer was not hurt.
Two people were injured during the attack; a male student, 14, is in stable condition and a female student, 16, is in critical condition.
Nobody was killed in the shooting at Great Mills High School in Maryland, the area’s sheriff’s office has confirmed, after the incident on Tuesday morning which saw the school put into lockdown.

As the incident unfolded, the sheriff’s department warned parents or guardians to stay away, going instead to Leonardtown High School to reunite with Great Mills students there.
Students inside the school tweeted reporting the shooting as rumours swirled in the immediate aftermath.

School principal Jake Heibel reportedly told parents last month that the school had investigated threats of a possible shooting and found they were “not substantiated”.
Mr Heibel told parents that school officials interviewed two students in February who were overheard mentioning a school shooting and found that they posed no threat.
But he said the school still increased its security after social media posts about a possible school shooting “circulated quite extensively”.
