US Postal Service looking to raise prices again this year

(KSNF/KODE) — The United States Postal Service on Tuesday (4/9) proposed another stamp price increase this year — one that could go into effect this summer.

The proposal submitted by the United States Postal Service (USPS) to the Postal Regulatory Commission suggests price increases for multiple mailing services.

According to the USPS, the proposal would raise mailing services product prices by approximately 7.8%.

Here are the services included in the proposed price increase:

  • First-Class Mail Forever stamps — increasing from $0.68 to $0.73.

  • One-ounce letters — increasing from $0.64 to $0.69.

  • Domestic postcards — increasing from $0.53 to $0.56.

  • International postcards and letters — increasing from $1.55 to $1.65.

  • Additional-ounce prices for single-piece letters — increasing from $0.24 to $0.28.

Stamp prices alone have soared 36% since 2019 when they used to cost 50 cents. The Postal Service last raised First-Class stamp prices by two cents in January, just a few months after it raised prices by three cents in July 2023.

If approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission, the change would take effect in July.
